Our second artist vignette has been added to the video section of our website. This short film features the Western photographer Allen Russell. Each artist was given the opportunity to answer a handful of questions pertaining to their photography and what makes them unique. Allen’s work is based on his belief that “real life” is stranger and more interesting than fiction, and The American West is much more than a physical location, it is a concept, a feeling and a way of being. Allen’s models are “real” people and animals doing what they do best. Allen captures all aspects of The West but he is especially interested in the current changes facing its unique people and critters, both at work and at play.

Allen currently lives and works out of his ranch west of Livingston, Montana. Visit the featured artist page of our website to see more of his work, and/or read the complete interview here on our blog.

Our first promotional video was posted on the website recently and the response has been very positive. This short film bio was created by Clay Croft at Hiline Productions and features local artist and contributing photographer Mark MacLeod.

As a Montana native, Mark uses his discerning eye to capture the West as it truly is, allowing for detail and purity that are part of the western legacy. He does not believe in contrived images, and strives only for realism, “capturing images as they happen”. Whether it’s a pristine trout stream, a rough and rugged rodeo arena, or simply riding behind a dusty herd of cattle, Mark is adept at capturing those classic western images. Check out this short film by visiting the video page on our website.

All I can say is wow! What a dramatic setting for our 4th short film. The Absaroka mountain range was the backdrop during the filming of Western photographer Allen Russell. It had snowed two days earlier (yes it snowed on October 1st) so the peaks were a brilliant white and on Friday the skies had finally cleared just long enough to make for the perfect day.

Allen has been a contributing artist for a few years and photographs what he knows best, “Life in the American West”. He has made “The West” home and has traveled extensively throughout. His experiences and knowledge include, horse trainer, a one man/one horse ride from Canada to Mexico down The Rocky Mountains, big game outfitter, guide, rancher and World traveler. Allen’s work is based on his belief that “real life” is stranger and more interesting than fiction, especially in the American West. The American West is much more than just a physical location, it is a concept, a feeling and a way of being. Allen’s models are real people and animals doing what they know best. All aspects of The West are captured but Allen is especially interested in the current changes the American West faces and its unique people and critters at work and play.

Wild West Photos is currently working with Hiline Productions of Bozeman, Montana on a series of 5 short films that will showcase a small group of photographers currently featured on our website. The videos will be released over the next few months and will provide a quick snapshot into the lives, personalities, and of course the photography of these talented artists.

Many of these photographers are long-time residents or Montana natives and this has allowed them to develop a tremendous understanding of the surrounding landscapes, wildlife, cultures and events that define Montana, Wyoming, Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. This is what provides Wild West Photos with beautiful, natural and unscripted imagery from these many wonderful locations.
